Nov. 1 - 5: Poetry

Fri. Nov. 5/10
- Finish any incomplete poetry and short story work.
- Read the three poems (The Forsaken, The Ice-Floes, David) in the Legends and Stories section of you poetry unit.
- Complete the following survey on the current events topic about ice cream for prisoners.


Thurs. Nov. 4/10

- We are in the old K-library computer lab today.
- Complete yesterday's poems and assignments if you were absent (see Wednesday's instructions).
- Complete your ode or elegy (see Monday's instructions)
- Finish your "Team Short Story" and prepare or rehearse the presentation.


Wed. Nov. 3/10

***These assignments are due at the end of class:
- Read The Lonely Land by A. J. M. Smith (p. 3)
- Read Warren Pryor by A. Nowlan (p. 13)
- Complete the writing tasks for these poems on the poetry unit sheet (answer on a separate sheet of paper). (18 marks)

If you finish, continue work on your short story and your ode / elegy (see yesterday's post).

Tues. Nov. 2/10

- We are in the old K-library lab today:
  • Finish your "Dreams" 5 paragraph essay rough copy. Hand it in.
  • Finish your "Team" short story (20 marks)
  • Presentation (read/projector project) sign-up (Nov - Dec) (5 marks)
  • Try Xtranormal or GoAnimate  (see examples below)
  • Complete your 12 line ode / elegy (6 marks) See yesterday's post.

- Read "The Painted Door" by Sinclair Ross on p. 47 of Tigers of the Snow.
- Discuss the questions in groups in preparation for the quiz on Thursday.

  • your completed essay outline (5 marks)
  • your first (introductory) paragraph. Print this and any other essay content completed today. (2 marks)

Fri. Oct. 8
- The new K-Library computer lab is booked today.
- Continue work on your computer-generated mind map (alone or with a partner). We will need to work on the Kubuntu Linux system, a newer version of Linux that is compatible with Google Docs.
  • Review the mind map assignment and evaluation rubric
  • Go to Google -> More -> Documents
  • Set up a Google Docs account (need email & password)
  • Create a new Google Drawing mind map for your Alchemist novel topic selection.You can set up a document and share it with your partner so that you can remotely collaborate on the same mind map.
  • When finished, email your mind map to me (with full names and block)
  • Go on to completing your three thesis statements on sub-topics of Dreams ( try the Thesis Generator).
  • Read to page 127 of The Alchemist for next Tuesday's class
