- The lab is booked for these four classes. You may choose either the worksheet (Option A) or the blogging tasks (Option B) for this poetry unit:

- Option A:  You will complete Part One (except ques. 2 of General Subjects) on the worksheet tasks. You may write or type your answers. Hand in the answers on paper (64 marks).
OR
- Option B: You will complete the four poetry blogging tasks on the poetry blogging unit assignment sheet. Email the URL for your completed blog (64 marks).

  • - In the computer lab, set up your blog at Blogger.com (sign in with your Google Docs username and password. Do not make a new account). You can customize your blog's privacy and comment moderation settings through your Blogger Dashboard "settings" and "comments" tabs.
Mon. Oct. 29
- Lab 1 is booked to finish work on the team short story assignment.

Wed. Oct. 17
- Review "The Sound of Hollyhocks" story questions.
- When you finish the quiz, go to Lab 2 to complete your mindmaps and the typed paragraphs.
-Type out your two best paragraphs from your peer-edited rough copies. DUE Thurs. Oct. 18: 2 typed good copies (2 x 6 marks) and four rough drafts (4 x 2 marks) Total 20 marks.


Tues. Oct. 16
- 20 min. for assignment completion or self-directed reading.
- Read: "The Sound of Hollyhocks" by Hugh Garner on p. 7 of Tigers of the Snow.
- Discuss the story questions. Then, be ready at the start of tomorrow's class to write the open-book quiz. 


Mon. Oct. 15  - The Alchemist online novel  / The Alchemist audio book

- The computer lab is booked today.
- Complete your computer-generated mind map project.  If you've been absent, see instructions:
  • Review the mind map evaluation rubric and assignment (work alone or with one partner).
  • Go to Google -> Documents or Drive
  • Create a new Google Drawing mind map for your novel mind map topic selection.
  • Depending on your mindmap topic choice, consult the novel, the Novel Setting Map and/or the  Study Notes
  • Your mindmap must include at least three (3) quotes with citations.
  • When finished, email your mind map to me with full name(s) and block

Fri. Oct. 12 - The Alchemist online novel  / The Alchemist audio book
- Peer Editing - Today, we'll review the purpose of peer editing and practice editing first draft paragraphs from other classes.

- When finished, complete:
  1. your novel reading
  2. the reading preferences assignment (due today) - 16 marks
  3. make revisions on your own peer-edited paragraphs. Select two for typing next week. Next week you will hand in two typed paragraphs (6 marks each) and your four rough drafts (2 marks each) on media unit topics- 20 marks total (DUE Thurs. Oct. 18).
Wed. Oct. 10 / Thurs. Oct. 11 - The Alchemist online novel  / The Alchemist audio book

- The computer lab is booked for Wednesday and Thursday.
- Work on your computer-generated mind map project.
  • Review the mind map evaluation rubric and assignment (work alone or with one partner).

    - 40 min. novel reading. Finish reading the novel for Wednesday.
    - If finished, complete your reading preferences sheet paragraphs and charts.
    - Introduce mindmap assignment and the marking rubric. You will have three classes to complete the mindmap using the Google Documents Drawing feature.  You may work alone or with one partner. The lab is booked for Tuesday, Wednesday and next Monday.
    - Finish watching part 2 of the "One on One" interview (Al Jazeera) Part 1 - Part 2
