Preparation for in-class synthesis essay
- Review the Elements of Poetry slides noting one error on slide 19: "Our love bloomed in the garden" is an example of metaphor, not personification.


- Review biographical information on the poets Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou.


- Listen to Langston Hughes discuss the concept of dreams and recite his poem "Dreams.'


 - Listen to Maya Angelou recite her poem "Still I Rise."
 

Tues. Apr. 19 - Wed. Apr. 20, 2016
- Start work on the interview poem assignment. You may respond to the questions as yourself or respond as a fictional character or popular culture personality. If you are adopting a persona that is not yourself, write the character's identity under your title.

- Shakespearean sonnets: Today we'll review the characteristics of a sonnet.
- Review the sonnet lesson.
- Start writing your own 14 line sonnet.

- Read Ozymandias and view / listen to this sonnet read by Bryan Cranston in the context of Breaking Bad. This poem was written by Percy Bysshe Shelley, and it was inspired by an ancient Egyptian statue of Ramses II. Shelley wrote the poem for a sonnet competition he was having with friends.





- View the video of David Gilmour, the voice and guitar of Pink Floyd, singing Shakespeare's Sonnet 18
