Nov. 17 - 21: Short Stories / Poetry

FINAL MARKING DEADLINE for short story quizzes is Wed. Nov. 19th
Team Short Stories DUE Mon. Nov. 24

Fri. Nov. 21, 2014 Theme exploration - Privacy
- The theme of privacy will be used for one of your blogging poetry assignments next week in the lab. To prepare, we'll explore this topic as it connects to today's media landscape, employment, and personal affairs.
-We've practiced interview responses to commonly asked questions. Sometimes interviewers may encroach on an interviewee's privacy. Think about where your own privacy boundaries should be during an interview.
-Complete the personal privacy grid activity: Compare your grid with several other students and write a paragraph about your own views on personal information privacy. Then, following discussion on the responsibilities of individuals, government, and business, complete three thesis statements on the back of the sheet.
Thurs. Nov. 20, 2014

- Shakespearean sonnets: Today we'll review the characteristics of a sonnet.
- Review the sonnet lesson.
- Read Ozymandias and view / listen to this sonnet read by Bryan Cranston in the context of Breaking Bad. This poem was written by Percy Bysshe Shelley, and it was inspired by an ancient Egyptian statue of Ramses II. Shelley wrote the poem for a sonnet competition he was having with friends.

- Start writing your own 14 line sonnet.

- View the video of David Gilmour, the voice and guitar of Pink Floyd, singing Shakespeare's Sonnet 18

- remember to read your story aloud to get the 5 presentation marks. Tell me who you are reading your story with and find a place in the library to share your story. Each author must read a portion of the story to get the 5 presentation marks. Staple one assignment sheet to a typed copy of your story (include all author names and name(s) of who listened to your story on the assignment sheet).

If you have finished your short story, set up a blog for the upcoming poetry unit at Blogger. Use your Google username and password to access Blogger. Students who already have a blog that they'd like to use for poetry do not need to set up a new blog.
