Sept. 17 - 21: Media Education

Homework: Complete the following online student information form (6 marks)

Thurs. Sept. 20 - Fri. Sept. 21: Media, Celebrity and Global Activism
  
In the classroom: complete the reading preferences survey  and then complete the online survey in the computer lab.

Complete these two tasks in the computer lab:
  1.  **Review the media representation piece from the United Nations Refugee Agency. Write point form responses on the deconstructing media handout (page 9)
  2.   **Visit Look to the Stars and complete the celebrity information chart (page 8) for any five people.
**Both tasks due as homework for Tues., Sept. 25 class. 

Wed. Sept. 19
- 25 min. silent reading or privacy grid paragraph and thesis statement completion (12 marks). DUE Thurs. Sept. 20
- Write 3rd and 4th media topic paragraphs DUE by Friday, Sept. 21.
- Article discussion and comparison regarding the topic of cell phones in school.
- Paragraph ideas:
1. What is the best policy for cell phones in school?
2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of cell phones in class?
3. Why is geotagging a privacy concern?


Tues. Sept. 18
- 20 min. of silent reading
- Personal privacy grid activity: Compare your grid with several other students and write a paragraph about your own views on personal information privacy. Review and finish your three paragraph topics.
- Personal privacy grid activity: complete the other side of this sheet.



 Mon. Sept. 17, 2012
- Lab 120 is booked for this class (final lab class).
- Complete the following:
  1. Set up a Google Documents account (you'll need it for this course). You can use your school web mail account to set up a Google Docs account. Your school email is: first initial last name@skss.sd73.bc.ca
  2. Type your five entry annotated bibliography (hanging indent, alphabetical order, 1.5 or double space).
  3. Type your five paragraph essay. - Essay topic: If you had another month of holidays in September, which three places in Western Canada would you visit? (informal style; five paragraphs; include title; 1.5 or double space; proofread)
  4. Staple together and hand in: 1. mark sheet  2. typed essay  3. typed bibliography  4. hand written outline. DUE Wed. Sept. 19th.
