Sept. 10 - 14: Media Education

Homework: Complete the following online student information form (6 marks)
Thurs. Sept. 13 - Fri. Sept. 14, 2012
- Lab 2 is booked for these classes.
- Complete the following:
  1. Set up a Google Documents account (you'll need it for this course). You can use your school web mail account to set up a Google Docs account. Your school email is: first initial last name@skss.sd73.bc.ca
  2. Type your five entry annotated bibliography (hanging indent, alphabetical order, 1.5 or double space).
  3. Type your five paragraph essay. - Essay topic: If you had another month of holidays in September, which three places in Western Canada would you visit? (informal style; five paragraphs; include title; 1.5 or double space; proofread)
  4. Staple together and hand in: 1. mark sheet  2. typed essay  3. typed bibliography  4. hand written outline.

Wed. Sept. 12, 2012
- Essay topic: If you had another month of holidays in September, which three places in Western Canada would you visit? (informal style; five paragraphs) 
- Review the sample essay outline.
- Complete your five paragraph outline and write the introductory paragraph.
- Finish your five annotated bibliography entries for Thursday.  (The typed bibliography will be stapled to the back of the typed essay).
- TED Talks Video: Eli Pariser on Internet filter bubbles narrowing our world view.

Tues. Sept. 11, 2012
- View video on Facebook photo facial recognition capabilities.



- Complete at least four of five annotated bibliography entries using the tourism booklets in class. If you are absent, you can summarize the contents of any tourism websites in Western Canada such as Tourism Vancouver and Tourism Whistler.
- All five bibliography entries should be ready for typing on Thursday.
Mon. Sept. 10, 2012 - Online Privacy
- Question: Is a corn field new media? Check out the world's biggest QR code.
- Online privacy issues
- Review social media benefits and risks
- Review the Consumer Reports video on Facebook Privacy.
- Write one paragraph on any media-related topic.
